Samsung donates AED 72,761 to UAE Red Crescent

Samsung Electronics, organiser of the Samsung Running Festival, has donated AED 72,761 to the UAE Red Crescent as part of its pledge to support the charitable organisation's humanitarian cause.

The donation amount was raised at the company's annual running festival, wherein, the entire registration proceeds from the 3km and 10km run was contributed towards this noble cause. The event attracted over 20,000 running enthusiasts from across the region and was hailed as a big success by the participants and organisers

Red Crescent's support for the plight of the physically and mentally challenged is laudable and of great importance to us. We are delighted to have utilised the Samsung Running Festival as a platform to make a meaningful contribution to the society," said Mr. B.W.Lee, President and CEO, Samsung Middle East and Africa.

The Samsung Running Festival 2005 is co-hosted by United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee, United Arab Emirates Athletics Federation and UAE Red Crescent.

Recently, Samsung helped establish the IT room at Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre. The company donated several LCD-screen computers and printers to support the humanitarian organization in providing quality education and therapy services to children with special needs.

Furthermore, Samsung donated cutting-edge, digital products to the Al Noor Training Centre, which is run under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The donation was part of Samsung's endeavour to support the centre's annual fund raising event, the Family Fun Fair.

The first Samsung Running Festival (SRF) was originally conceived in 1995 as part of the celebrations of the fifth anniversary of Samsung's launch in Hungary. The company's efforts were rewarded with the participation of 80,000 Hungarian citizens, and today the Samsung Running Festival has turned into one of the largest sporting events in Central Europe and established itself as a truly global event in which hundreds of thousands people take part from all over the world.
