- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, December 27 - 2005 at 09:48
- PRESS RELEASE
The InterContinental Dubai is a proud participant in this year's Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2006 sponsoring Sightsavers international; an iniative to restore the sight of one million people; with over sixty staff participating in the charity event.
Starting at the Dubai World Trade Centre, sixty members of the team will participate in the 3km fun run, 10km race and 42km marathon. One of the six Marathon runners Steven Greenwood, Rooms Divisions Manager, will participate in the 42km full marathon for the second time, finishing last year's marathon in a gruelling run in 4 hours and 46 minutes.
All sixty participants have undertaken rigorous weekly training for the past months to ensure they are fully prepared for the event. InterFitness Recreation Manager, Rodney Isaacs has lead the operation offering exercise and nutritional plans to support the training process. Rodney recommends a combination of outdoor track running and weights to maintain upper-body strength, both of which are important.
"I am looking forward to the event where the entire InterContinental Dubai team can be involved, either as a runner or to offer support as a spectator" beamed Jorgen Jorgenson, General Manager of InterContinental Dubai. "Having participated in marathons myself, I know the degree of willpower needed to complete such a distance. There is a real sense of team work and team spirit amongst our runners in training and no doubt on completion of the race the feeling will be exhilarating".
