A popular DSF street venue beckons visitors

There are few things to beat the festive air of Al Riqqa Road come the month of DSF. The Riqqa Road will come alive once again this year during DSF 2006, bringing together a fusion of fun, entertainment and shopping for DSF revelers. This popular venue that has grown through the inception of the festival 10 years ago still holds its fame for the thrill of night shopping, some of the best eating haunts in the city and an enormous number of fun activities for families.

Once again this popular destination for DSF visitors would take off with a myriad of exciting entertainment events. The Jump Martial Art Show, the Acrobat Fun Show and the Juggling on Drums event are apt to keep visitors enthralled throughout the month.

Says Jassim Al Awazi, Head of Rigga Committee, "The Fun Fair and Skill Game Areas of Al Riqqa have been firm favourites of children and adults alike throughout the years. This year, with more and better games to suit all age groups, these areas would give an added punch to the whole festive atmosphere daily from 4pm to midnight."

Adds Al Awazi, "The Techno Village that would be on from 4pm to midnight is another feature that would add to the awe of the location, while the Al Riqqa Theatre would no doubt amuse and mesmerise visitors from 4pm to 10pm daily while a weekly Crafts Souq organized between 5pm and 10pm on Thursdays will offer a number of handicrafts and souvenirs to shoppers next to the Main Stage where TV channels will hold their own competitions and shows daily. A Safety and Protection Zone on Riqqa Road, organised by four Government departments jointly will advice visitors and children about safety in their daily lives," he says.

An amphitheatre constructed in this zone will feature games and competitions for children as well as shows while some of the most exciting events are the various parades including the Limousine, Harley-Davidson, fancy and modification cars and many more.

Besides the countless activities that would be added on to venue once the festival begins, this eclectic DSF venue has evolved into one of the most popular night shopping haunts during the DSF month. With an amazing array of kiosks that dot the road on either side offering everything from Dead Sea products, herbs, toys and seasonal fruits to mobile phone and fashion accessories, there is bound to be something for everyone to buy from this destination. The timings of these kiosks, which are open until midnight add allure to the shopping experience in a busy city where the night is when the living begins. And when families have had their fill of games and shopping, they can relax and enjoy the delicious fare offered at the wide range of restaurants and eating out outlets along the road.

Personnel of Dubai Police (traffic) and Civil Defence will be present on Riqqa Road to ensure a safe, secure and pleasurable time for all visitors.
