The meeting was held to discuss registration procedures that will be used when the Dubai Registration/Service Centre begins operations, according to Dr Saeed Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director General, who led the EIDA delegation. Other EIDA officials attending the meeting included Ali Khoury, Head of IT, Nassir Butti Al Shamsi, Manager of the Dubai EIDA Service Centre and Hamad Al Ghafli, Manager of the Abu Dhabi Service Centre.

Lieutenant General Tamim said: "We feel that this briefing will assist members of the Dubai Police in being prepared to answer inquiries from the public as to the type of information the card will contain and the benefit of carrying a single reliable means of both proving and protecting their individual identity."

Al Dhaheri welcomed the interest and cooperation of the Dubai Police in being briefed about the Population Register and National ID Card project. He noted that once the registration process is finalized there will be a public education phase which will assist the general public as well as all interested agencies to understand how the procedures to be followed in registration. "We hope to familiarize everyone involved with the type of documents that registrants must have to register, "he said.

Al Dhaheri also noted that the EIDA is taking steps to ensure that the data collected through the registration process is reliable and accurate in all respects. "As this data represents the all-important interface between the cardholder and all government departments we are committed to absolute accuracy in the initial registration and data collection phase of the program," he said. "Residents can be assured that their personal information is accurate and subject to the highest security measures."

EIDA registration and service centres are now in the process of being set up in each emirate throughout the UAE. The Identity Card Program is scheduled to be launched officially for all citizens and residents of the UAE in the near future.
