The nominations for this year's awards included all cars launched in the Middle East region in 2005. A team of independent judges including members of Autocar magazine and other motoring coryphées spent two days at the Dubai Autodrome testing the finalists before settling on the 11 category winners, out of which the "The Car of the Year" was determined over a final day of testing.
"This is the second time Autocar has presented the Car of the Year award in the Middle East and it's been an outstanding success with a surprising result," Autocar Middle East Editor, Damien Reid said. "At the end of two solid days of testing and many long hours into the night, the numbers from the judges pointed to the Audi A6 Avant which ultimately won the title by a single point from a potential maximum of 550 - you cannot get any closer than that," Reid said.
Mr. Thierry Seys, Managing Director of Audi Middle East, added
"This award not only gives honor to an excellent car, but also represents another milestone in Audi's commitment to the Middle East and will further contribute to Audis' growing success in the region."
Audi had recently launched the Avant version of the already popular Audi A6 limousine for the Middle East region and established a close cooperation with Emirates Airlines providing 50 A6 Avant for the Emirates Airlines Pilot Fleet.
