The contract volume of this largest Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) in the world announced 28 December is around EUR1.8 billion. The Shuaibah plant to be built 110 km South of Jeddah is scheduled for operation in 2009.

Siemens PG is to supply and install three steam turbo generator sets with a capacity of 400 MW each including the required electrical equipment and controls.

Also, Shuaibah will receive one of the most modern smoke purification plants internationally. The water desalination plant provided by Doosan will supply around 880,000 cubic meters of drinking water daily to Mecca, Jeddah, Taif and Al-Baha.

At the signing of the contract in Riyadh, Klaus Voges, President of Siemens Power Generation, stressed the top importance of the Middle East Market for his company.

Up to now, Siemens has supplied more than 300 gas and steam turbines to the region and installed power plants with a total capacity of 20,000 MW. Only last month it had received contracts from Qatar worth close to EUR500 million.

The Power Generation Group of Siemens AG is one of the premier companies in the international power generation sector. In the fiscal year 2005 (30 September) Siemens PG posted sales amounting to approximately EUR7.5 billion and received orders totalling EUR10.9 billion. World-wide, Siemens PG employs 33,500 staff.
