Dubai eGovernment (DEG) has announced a major e-learning initiative during Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) 2006, in celebration of the Festival.

Dubai eGovernment will offer free Digital Media courses to UAE residents and citizens during DSF 2006.

The Digital Media course is open to all citizens and residents of the UAE. Registration for the course is simple - just call AskDubai on 7000 40000 between January 3 and 6, 2006 and cross your fingers as the draw to decide the lucky candidates is conducted. The best 10 students of the course will be rewarded with prizes, including laptops and digital cameras. There are also early bird prizes and certificates for all participants.

"Dubai eGovernment has been leveraging every opportunity available to promote the usage of Information Technology. Being the largest event of its kind in Dubai, DSF 2006 offers us a unique platform to promote our e-initiatives to a mass audience," said Salem Al Shair, eServices Director, Dubai eGovernment. "The Digital Media course and photography competition are in line with DEG's strategy to equip the public with creative tools and empower them with modern IT skills, so they are adequately prepared to tackle future challenges."

The Digital Media course entails three courses integrated into a single curriculum, with a total duration of about four-and-half hours. The three segments that comprise the course are digital photography, digital video editing and digital music.

The first segment of the Digital Media course, digital photography, dwells on basic digital photography concepts, from selecting an ideal digital camera and taking a good picture to how to transfer images to a computer. The digital video editing course introduces digital video editing using MGI VideoWave 5. Participants are shown how to transfer videos to a PC and how to edit and enhance these videos, and will also be provided with step-by-step instructions to work with storylines and capture and edit videos.

The digital music course teaches learners how to use innovative applications like Creator Classic, Disc Copier and Drag-to-Disc to make a back-up copy of a disc. The course also covers the use of AudioCentral to create audio CDs.
