'Maa Nashwa' - new conversational programme to be telecast on Dubai TV

The Director of Dubai TV said, 'Since the re-launch of Dubai TV, we have attracted the best of the media personalities from the Arab region. Today, we are delighted that one of the leading Arab presenters is joining our Channel team, in a step which would have a positive effect on our programmes, and contribute towards offering a full package of programmes covering various political, economic, social, and cultural issues'.

He added, 'Launching 'Maa Nashwa' comes under Dubai TV's strategy to work on developing its programmes in accordance with viewer's preferences by providing what's new and modern, applying the latest international technology but preserving the Arab culture'.

Ali Khalifa confirmed that the programme would set high standards for freedom of expression, opening doors to discussing sensitive social and cultural issues, while observing media ethics. The programme has been assigned a huge budget to ensure good production value in line with the high reputation that Dubai TVhas achieved.

'Maa Nashwa' will start broadcasting on 1st Feb 2006 on a weekly basis. It will be recorded in Cairo and a number of Arab capital cities. The programme will include conversations and interviews that debate social and cultural issues from all around the Arab region.

Topics covered by the programme would include the most controversial issues of the Arab region including issues that concern the Arab families, besides looking into cultural issues like art, dramatics and theatre. The programme will interview the best of the writers, journalists, and artists to discuss the given issues in an honest and open manner.

The programme will be unique in its treatment by combining new elements of content and style in a TV magazine format.

The programme is of special importance since it is being hosted by a famous presenter, Nashwa Al Ruwaini, who has proved successful in similar programmes, besides her managerial experience as the MBC Manager in Cairo and Africa, and her academic background of holding a Masters and PHD degrees in Eastern and African Media studies, from London University.

On the other hand, Dr. Mazin Mostafa, expert in media and growth in Sussex University, will be the Chief Editor and supervisor of the programme. He worked as a professor in cultural studies in Bir Zeit, Palestine, before taking on the role of Chief Editor of Al Hawadeth Lebanese magazine in London. After which he took on the post of Cultural Programmes Manager in MBC, later returning to teaching the cultural view and media, globalization, and media in BirkBeck College, University of London.
