American Hospital Dubai Laboratory is awarded its third consecutive accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP)

Dr Han was speaking as the Hospital acknowledged the accreditation, for the third consecutive time, of its Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the United States' largest association for American Board Certified Laboratory Pathologists and the recognized world leader in laboratory quality assurance. American Hospital Dubai's laboratory, which reports more than 250,000 test results every year for patients, as well as for other area Hospitals and Clinics and Physicians offices throughout the UAE, is the only one in the UAE to be accredited by the CAP.

The CAP confirmed the accreditation following a comprehensive examination of the laboratory by a team of physician inspectors working with a checklist of over 3,000 quality control items, reviewing the laboratory's policies and procedures, quality control procedures, equipment, facilities, safety program and staff qualifications. CAP congratulated the American Hospital Dubai for the "excellence of the services being provided".

Dr Han describes the CAP inspection and accreditation process as "very rigorous" and designed to ensure that there is a uniformly high standard of laboratory quality control to ensure the highest accuracy of testing for patients.

"Using the latest equipment and technologies, operated by skilled technologists, we generate over a quarter of a million test results each year," added Dr Han. "The services we offer include biochemistry, hematology, transfusion medicine, microbiology, molecular biology, histology, and cytology."

The Pathology Laboratory at the American Hospital Dubai is a full service laboratory operating 24/7 to provide the highest quality test results to meet patient and physician needs. The laboratory has a team of over 30 full-time qualified staff led by two American Board Certified Pathologists with subspecialties in Hematopathology (Dr Aaron Han) and Dermatopathology (Dr. Reem El Bahtimi).

The goal of the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is to improve the quality of clinical laboratory services through voluntary participation, professional peer review, education, and compliance with established performance standards. The laboratory is awarded CAP accreditation and operates within an exclusive group of more than 6,000 laboratories worldwide that have met the highest standards of excellence.
