- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, July 25 - 2002 at 12:24
- PRESS RELEASE
IBM Middle East announced its support of Intel's new Itanium 2 processor, which debuted last week.
IBM software - such as WebSphere and DB2 - will also support the Itanium 2 processor.
The 64-bit Itanium 2 processor targets many commercial and technical applications, including business intelligence, databases, enterprise resource planning, supply chain management, and high-performance computing.
"IBM continues to thrive in the Intel-based server segment by offering our customers cost-effective, powerful and reliable systems. Based on the Enterprise X-Architecture (EXA) that was featured in the recently launched x440 server, we are developing a 64-bit version of this machine that will scale up to 16 processors and deliver even more powerful mainframe-like management capabilities to the 64-bit Intel architecture market", said Andy Parkinson, eServer xSeries sales manager, IBM Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan.
