- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, January 07 - 2006 at 12:23
- PRESS RELEASE
The renowned 3-jet L29 Sasol Tigers Formation Aerobatic Team are to perform at the extremely popular 'Al Ain Aerobatic Show' to be held under the patronage of His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces, at Al Ain International Airport during Al Adha Holiday from 11 to 15 January 2006.
The air show will include many crowd-thrilling attractions, such as breathtaking solo and team aerobatic displays by some of the best pilots in the world, flying both propeller and jet-engine aircraft, helicopters, radio control model aircraft, and static air exhibition.
The three Tiger jets arrived in the UAE on massive transporters coming from Johannesburg International Airport. Two of the Mazda Zoom Zooms, the 'Wing-Walking' Boeing Stearman of Stu Davidson, and his son, Patrick's Extra 300 resplendent in the South African flag color scheme will soon arrive at Al Ain International Airport.
Brad Bennetts and Ian Billing will display the Zoom Zooms at the air show, while 36-year-old Bernice Esther Joyce, a runner and swimmer, will do the 'walking' atop the Stearman, something not yet seen in the UAE.
Before departing to the UAE the Sasol Tigers participated in several major events, such as the AFB Overberg Air Show, the 2005 Sasol WesBank Airtainment Tour at Ysterplaat Air Force Base last December, and a special flypast over the Gateway Shopping Centre in Umhlanga.
The latter was a build-up to the premier of the fabulous new IMAX movie, 'Fighter Pilot - Operation Red Flag', which launched at the center's IMAX theatre that evening. The Sasol Tigers "Top Guns", Ralf Dominick, Martin van Straaten and Nigel Hopkins, performed this display, and they will do the flying at 'Al Ain Aerobatic Show' this January.
The Sasol Tigers will join the cream of the international civilian aerobatic teams, such as the Honda Dream Team, Breitling Jet Team, Russian Knights and the German National Aerobatic Helicopter Team.
