The magazine survey, run in conjunction with Nottingham Business School, also placed Serco as 6th most admired company in the country, outranking many corporate heavyweights including Vodafone, British Airways and J Sainsbury.

The survey involved questioning over 200 of the largest public companies in the country to evaluate their peers.

Performance was rated against nine criteria: quality of management, financial soundness, quality of services, ability to attract, develop and retain top talent, value as a long term investment, capacity to innovate, quality of marketing, community and environmental responsibility and use of corporate assets.

Chris Hyman, Serco Group Chief Executive said: "The companies with whom we compete are tough judges. This result is a tribute to our 43,000 Serco people and the public service ethos which they demonstrate every day.

"Across the world, every time a passenger climbs aboard a Serco-run train, every time a teacher receives support from a Serco adviser and every time a pilot talks to a Serco air traffic controller, we have an impact on people's lives. So the views of our stakeholders matter a great deal to us. We are very proud to receive this recognition."

Serco's association with the Middle East dates back to 1947. Serco is a pioneer in the field of Aeronautical Services, Facilities Management and Technology Solutions throughout the GCC. Together with its strategic partners, Serco has been instrumental in delivering business critical services to its clients.

John Ashcroft, Managing Director, Serco in the Middle East said: "Awards such as this are also highly significant to Serco globally with many of our Middle East staff stemming from Serco UK and ultimately contributing to this successful result.

"We believe that this accolade reinforces our aim to be the leading service company in our chosen markets, and to become a benchmark against which others are judged."
