  • PRESS RELEASE

Michel Danet, Secretary General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) has praised the efforts of Dubai Customs International (DCI) for its efficient management and development of customs centers outside the UAE.

Danet also commended the role played by DCI in implementing electronic customs systems, especially in the area of electronic clearance, which WCO has been extensively promoting.

During his meeting with Hamed Fadhel Al Mazrooi, Chief Executive Officer, DCI, Michel Danet also spoke highly about the infrastructure facilities and IT systems at DCI, which has enabled it to play a major role in providing training to employees of various customs centers in the Arab region. He assured all the support from WCO to DCI for future training programs, in terms of guidelines and plans.

Al Mazrooi highlighted the progress achieved by DCI in managing and developing Djoubti Customs, especially with regard to the modern IT systems. He also gave a brief overview of the training courses conducted by DCI for more than 40 employees of Djoubti Customs at DCI. He pointed out the huge interest shown by the trainees to learn the latest developments in customs, and was of the opinion that the success of the onsite training was largely due to the vast experience of the DCI team.

Danet and Al Mazrooi also discussed key aspects of the requirement by the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) to provide a system of customs clearance in Comoros Republic and Seychelles.

Michel Danet expressed WCO's willingness to extend its support to DCI to set up a state-of-the-art development center in Dubai, which customs management from various countries in the region could make use of. The center will have all the latest facilities and equipments, in addition to experienced personnel.
