DCCI members double 177 times in 4 decades

The Department of Commercial Services at Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry DCCI awarded the outstanding staff for their great efforts in 2005.

The ceremony was attended by Abdulrahman G. Al Mutaiwee the Director General of DCCI, Atiq Juma Nasib the Director of the Commercial Services Department, Eyad Juma Al Kindy the Manager of the Members Affairs, Rashid Matar the Manager of the Purchasing and Administrative Services, Muna Ajeef the Manager of Quality, Fadi Al Saqa Training and Development Supervisor and the Commercial Services Department staff.

The Director General stated that the services offered by the Commercial Services Department reflect the DCCI's vision in the implemented strategy to be the indispensable source of competitive advantage for the business community in Dubai. He explained the offered services will boost the vision and the aims of DCCI in activating its role in serving the business community.

Al Mutaiwee acknowledged the commercial services staff's performance in 2005 and encouraged them present the best services to the members. He added in the meeting with the commercial services staff that it expresses the chamber's interest in creating an excellent working environment. The DCCI is interested in developing human resources by sending them to training courses and workshops to develop their performance and improve their competences; in this regard DCCI sent staff to Malaysia and Istanbul to benefit from the Malaysian and Turkish Chambers experiences and have a planned to send them to Munich in 2006.

Al Mutaiwee explained that by the end of 2005 the total number of the registered members at Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry jumped to 79,470 members comparing to 75,039 members in 2004, while the total transactions (new and renewed) processed in 2005 reached 60,338 which means an increase of 23.5% comparing with 2004 when it reached 48,828 transactions.

Jebel Ali branch processed 42% of the total transactions that the Commercial Services Department achieves which evoked a new building in Jebel Ali Free Zone, the chamber already have gathered the opinions of the members and non members in that area to seek their needs in the new building, and it considered as well the expansions in Jebel Ali such as Jebel Ali Airport and the Logistics City, Al Mutaiwee stated.

Al Mutaiwee highlighted the noticeable growth in issuing the certificates of origin in 2005 which reached 418605 comparing to 371488 in 2004 increasing by 12.68%. He explained these figures reflect the level of economical growth in Dubai and the fast growing rate in the emirates.

At the end of the meeting Al Mutaiwee awarded the outstanding staff for their great efforts in 2005, He awarded Mohammed Khalifa Al Rumaithy, Ahmed Ali Saleh, Mohamed babiker and Mohammed Sharif Al Ali from members affairs, as well as Nouf Antar Al Noubi and Musabeh Tamim Al Ketbi from the commercial documentation. From the branches Al Mutaiwee awarded Mohammed Ibrahim and Mariam Khamis Salem.

The List of awarded staff included Dawood Abdulla for his great efforts in supporting the consultant company in developing the electronic systems, Amal Al Muhairi for her active role in increasing number of the users of the online certificate of origin service, Mohamed Samer for developing the idea of opening an office in Jebel Ali to promote DCCI services and helping the investors as well as Rashid Matar for his great efforts in the department.

Atiq Juma the director of Commercial Services Department stated adding members services section, member's legal services section and the credit rating unit to the department will support the role of the department in offering value added services that serves that business community mentioning the credit rating services received a good response from the business community.

The total number of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and industry members rose significantly since it was established 40 years ago, the total number raised from 450 members in 1965 to 790 members in 1975. Then the number jumped to 10934 in 1985 after that to 31510 in 1995, and the total number in 2005 reached 79470 members which mean the total number of the members doubled 177 times approximately in four decades.

From the other side, the Commercial Services Department worked during mourning period of the sad demise of Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Sunday 8th of January 2006 and issued 1836 certificates of origin and Thursday 12th of January and processed 1090 certificates of origin at the head office and Jebel Ali branch.
