RAK Awafi Festival draws good response

The Awafi Festival 2006 currently underway in Ras Al Khaimah is drawing tremendous response as hundreds of visitors, including large number of families, continue to swoop down on the picturesque Awafi area to take part in the annual spring festival.
According to the organisors, the festival would gain more momentum with the action- packed motor races scheduled to be held on January 18 and 19. The motor cycle shows and races would be held on January 18 while the car racing competitions would be held on January 19. More than 130 contestants have registered for the car racing competitions.
The festival is branded as a unique place for family getaways and for those hoping to take a break from the congested city life by enjoying the magic of the sand in the cool environs of Awafi.
The theme of this year's festival is the family and special focus has been given to attract families by offering a host of cultural and entertainment options. Special areas have been earmarked for providing tented accommodation to the visiting families.
The festival venue also has various sections featuring a Heritage Village, a Bazaar and a children's play zone. A separate section has been allocated for public amenities like food outlets, internet cafes, coffee shops and games area.
The festival programme also features football tournament, music shows, chess tournament, horse races, puppet shows, theatre events and a host of other sports and cultural events. The Awafi Festival will conclude on January 27.
