  • PRESS RELEASE

While the world's best have their eyes fixed on the $400,000 winner's cheque at the 17th Dubai Desert Classic, away from the greens the National Bank of Dubai will again play a significant role supporting one of the leading sporting events in the Middle East.

To be staged at the Emirates Golf Club from February 2-5, the $2.4 million tournament has not only again attracted a high-class field of world stars including Ernie Els and Tiger Woods, it has also maintained its links with a number of high-profile sponsors including the National Bank of Dubai.

Speaking on behalf of the event, Mohamed Buamim, Vice Chairman of Golf in DUBAI (GiD), the organisers and promoters of the Dubai Desert Classic, said:

"This will be the tenth year we've enjoyed a relationship with the National Bank of Dubai and we're delighted to see them maintain their place among our loyal family of sponsors. Like the National Bank of Dubai - the oldest locally incorporated bank and the official bank of the tournament - the Dubai Desert Classic is one of the country's most trusted and respected brands."

Founded in 1963, NBD is the oldest locally incorporated bank. From its imposing headquarters, depicting a ship in full sail, it operates a vast network of branches in the UAE in addition to a branch in London and a representative office in Teheran.

Besides Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL) as the main sponsor of the Desert Classic, CNN International, Emaar, Dubai Waterfront by Nakheel, and Samsung as co-sponsors, other sponsors include: Emirates as official airline and Hole In One Sponsor; official caterer, hotel and challenge match sponsor Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa; Official Bank National Bank of Dubai; official courtesy car BMW; and event newspaper Gulf News.
