Al Khaleej National School celebrates "Arabic Week"
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, January 18 - 2006 at 13:29
- PRESS RELEASE
Al Khaleej National School (AKNS), a GEMS school, recently held an Arabic language week to help students develop their skills and enhance their knowledge in the language.
Yvonne Smith, Principal of Al Khaleej National School said, "We at the school believe that teaching and continually updating the Arabic language skills of our students is an important responsibility for us since the Arabic language is the national language of the country and is also the sixth most widely spoken language in the world. The purpose of the Arabic week was to strengthen the ties of the students with their mother-tongue and re-kindle their interest towards the Arabic culture and tradition".
The activities in the week varied from comprehensive lessons in the Arabic language to debates and seminars for students of all grades. The seminars that were led by the school's Arabic teachers aimed at exploring new methods of teaching the Arabic language and preserving its essence from the influence of other foreign languages.
One of the activities involved the students in conducting workshops for other peers in their classroom and use the state-of-the-art educational tools provided by GEMS for this purpose. This helped the students to strengthen their skills, display their efficiencies in planning and executing the sessions and most of all communicate the information to their classmates.
Students also used the school's internal radio station to create awareness about the Arabic Week activities and emphasized the importance of the Arabic Language with the aim to encourage their peers to protect the authenticity of Arabic vocabulary from influence of foreign languages and colloquial speech that is used in daily lives.
Al Khaleej National School offers an American education with an emphasis on extra curricular activities as part of the enrichment programme. With a new elementary wing which opened this year, Al Khaleej National School also provides its students with state-of-the-art facilities like science laboratories, ICT and multimedia facilities, media rooms, music halls, multi-purpose gymnasium and a swimming pool.
