The three-day event, organized by Expo Centre Sharjah with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is hosting 30 leading companies representing some of the most sought after brands in the global woodworking industry.
The show features the full requirements of the woodworking industry starting from wood/panels to machinery, coatings, tools & equipment, furniture accessories including the entire range of veneers, plywood, laminates, glues, lacquers, fittings, and total supplies for woodworking machineries and consumables.
'WoodWorking Middle East is making its debut in the region taking in to account the increasing demands of the region's expanding woodworking industry,' said Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa, after the inauguration ceremony.
'There has been a sharp increase in the region, especially in the UAE, for wood and woodworking machinery as a result of the boom in the construction sector. Woodworking in the region is moving away from the traditional carpentry shops, to larger mechanized operations. This sudden change in outlook has created a void for the required machinery and technology, which is being filled at the WoodWorking Middle East exhibition,'
he said.
The world market for forestry and woodworking is estimated to have reached USD $ 92,312 million by the end of 2005. Of this, Europe was the largest market with USD $ 42,588 million followed by Asia with USD $ 19,932 million. The Middle East's share was around USD $ 4,907 million.
In 2002, the largest importer of rough, squared, and semi finished wood in the Middle East was Saudi Arabia with import worth USD $ 190 million followed by UAE with USD $ 100 million. During this period Saudi Arabia also imported USD $ 166 million worth of Veneers and Plywood. UAE's share of import of Veneers and Plywood during this period amounted to USD $ 141 million.
'WoodWorking Middle East will serve as a platform that will bring together global woodworking machinery manufacturers and regional players in the industry under one roof,' he added.
Countries from which a majority of the brands are being displayed at the show include Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Canada, China, Germany, India, Italy, Oman, Portugal, Taiwan (ROC), and USA, besides the UAE.
A major highlight at WoodWorking Middle East is wood, especially African timber, American hardwood, European lumber, Far-East timber, and Indian wood.
Plywood, boards and panels from South Eat Asia, India and Europe are also expected to be of significant interest to the visitors.
'WoodWorking Middle East provides top professionals from the regional woodworking industry an opportunity to witness from very close quarters the latest developments that have been taking place in the field of woodworking technology globally,' said Mr. Fasahat Ali Khan, Acting Director General, Expo Centre Sharjah.
'Besides, it is a one-stop sourcing hub for the regional woodworking sector given that the industry's entire requirements are being catered to from a single platform. For global manufacturers of woodworking machinery and accessories, the event provides ample scope to enter in to strategic alliances and in the process break in to a highly lucrative market,' he added.
Visitors to WoodWorking Middle East will include carpenters, joinery managers, furniture manufacturers, kitchen equipment manufacturers, shop fitting specialists, fenestration manufacturers, exhibition stand contractors, carpentry shop managers of construction companies, architects, general managers, procurement managers, estimators, and planning and design managers from the MENA region, the Indian sub-continent as well as CIS countries.
