DED participate in the GCC 10th Industrialists Conference

In its continuing commitment to developing a significant industrial sector in the GCC, the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) participated in the GCC 10th Industrialists Conference which was held recently in Kuwait.

The conference highlighted the GCC Industry's Competitiveness in The New Economy with the objective of presenting a structural framework for industrial development and highlighting integrated policies to achieve a sustained industrial development in the region. .

The DED delegation was headed by Farid Al Abdullah, Head of the Business Sector Development Division at DED accompanied by Dr. Faisal Al Amir, industry Advisor.

Commenting on the conference Mr. Al Abdullah said:

"The key to stable economy growth lies in developing the industrial sector. The main objectives of the conference are to present an environmental scanning of Gulf industry and the extent of harmonization between aspirations and practical constraints."


The conference highlighted the productivity & competitiveness in industry which helps in fostering sustained development in the Gulf. Other issues discussed at the conference included the crucial importance of research and development and policies that focus on implementation of modern technology. The conference also discussed the benefits of shifting from inward-oriented policies to outward-oriented policies and export oriented industries.

Experts and analysts at the conference discussed the current situation in the industrial sector in the Gulf including a number of issues aimed at adapting industry to the pre-requisites of the knowledge economy.

The Department of Economic Development (DED) was established in March 1992, with the objective to organise, regulate and boost trade and industry within the Emirate of Dubai. The DED has moulded its mission of building a futuristic establishment, in accordance with the vision of the Government of Dubai and in the light of globalisation and the requirements of a digital economy.
