Dubai, January 24th, 2006 - The first PET/CT scanner system in the Middle East will be housed in Beirut's Clemenceau Medical Centre (CMC), giving patients and physicians in the region access to an entirely new level of healthcare technology, according to an agreement signed between CMC and GE Healthcare at the 31st Arab Health Exhibition and Congress today.

The GE Discovery system integrates a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner - capable of creating images of metabolic activity in the body - with a 16-slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner that creates images of the anatomy. Together, the PET/CT scans provide physicians with more sensitivity, speed, resolution and diagnostic precision, reducing the time, expense and anxiety of multiple procedures and allowing a more personalized course of treatment and the ability to monitor response to therapy for patients.

The $9 million agreement signed between GE Healthcare and CMC, a medical centre affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine International, also includes a $7 million contract to install the world's most advanced diagnostic imaging technology linked to a picture archiving and communication system (PACS).

"Arab Health is becoming the No. 1 venue for international healthcare industry professionals to present their plans for the future, and as such is a perfect fit for us to announce this cutting-edge collaboration,"

said Dr. Mounes Kallawi, Chief Executive Officer of CMC.
