This is Emirates' first passenger service into Scandinavia and opens up new connections for business and leisure travellers not just in Denmark, but also in Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Baltic area and much of Northern Europe.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group, said:
'We are extremely pleased to be able to offer our customers this new service to Copenhagen. Denmark is a perfect gateway for us into Scandinavia and the surrounding regions.'
'We believe that this route will prove extremely popular and offer Emirates passengers greater convenience and choice when making their travel arrangements.'
Emirates will operate an Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route from Dubai International Airport to Copenhagen Airport. The outbound flight, EK135 will leave Dubai at 0925hrs, arriving in Copenhagen at 1405hrs the same day. The return flight, EK136, will depart Copenhagen at 1545hrs, arriving in Dubai at 2359hrs - which is ideal for onward connections to Asia, Africa and Australia.
Emirates A330-200 aircraft will be configured in two classes with 27 seats in Business Class and 251 in Economy. Members of Skywards, Emirates' frequent flyer programme, can earn Skywards Miles when flying in either class between Dubai and Copenhagen in either direction - and, of course, onwards around Emirates global network.
This service will also offer more than 14 tonnes of cargo capacity per flight which will greatly increase Emirates offering to the region and will supplement the existing freight-only service to Gothenburg in Sweden.
Emirates world-class and award-winning service is sure to prove a great success on this route. The inflight service and entertainment system with personal screens in all seat backs in both classes as well as a personal satellite phone in every seat is bound to be a big hit with passengers.
The launch of Emirates services to Copenhagen will come at the end of an extremely busy year of expansion for the Dubai-based carrier, which has announced the launch of seven new destinations - providing customers around the world with even more convenient travel options.
Between February 2006 and the launch of services to Copenhagen in October, the airline has announced plans to launch services to Thiruvananthapuram in India, Abidjan in Cote D'Ivoire (February), Hamburg in Germany, Kolkata in India (March), Nagoya in Japan (June), and Beijing in China (September).
This will mean that by the end of 2006 Emirates will be servicing more than 85 destinations in 57 countries worldwide, thus furthering its position as a truly global airline.
