Set for 29 - 31 January at the Dubai World Trade Centre, this year's show hosts the largest assembly of experts, suppliers and services ever seen in the region. To date, Intersec has 450 confirmed exhibitors from over 40 countries, 100 of these are UAE based confirming Intersec as the largest event of its kind anywhere in the region.

Intersec's Exhibition Manager, Imke Huelsmann said,

"We are very proud and honoured to have received the ongoing support and commitment from Dubai Police and the United Arab Emirates, Ministry of Interior, Dubai Civil Defence. Apart from being key supporters of the show, they will be exhibiting their latest alert system, along with vehicles, a desert bike and motorbike, all of which are locally modified."

Ms Huelsmann continued to explain that the substantial year on year growth of 35% has a lot to do with the massive amount of development being undertaken in the Gulf area. She said "Dubai itself being the commercial hub of the UAE, an attractive centre for business and pleasure to visitors globally and within the region plus being a peaceful city with excellent infrastructure is consequently the perfect platform for major trade shows such as Intersec 2006." The response to the support of Dubai Police Force and Ministry of Interior Dubai Civil Defence has been exceptional.

Exhibiting at Intersec are the latest technologies in all areas of security and safety from building security, fire protection, work and personal protection in the Middle East. The product range at this years show is extensive.
The International Police, Fire and Safety Conference cover all these areas in depth. Speakers will be attending from across the globe, sharing their expertise. The show has been divided into three areas of specialisation
"MEPEC", the Middle East Police Exhibition & Conference, focuses on suppliers of products and services for the police force and homeland security, forensic equipment, biometrics, smart cards, armoured vehicles and C4I.

Andrew Trotter, Deputy Chief Constable of the British Transport Police, who will be speaking during MEPEC, stated following the July 7th bombings, "the response of the emergency services to the July bombings in London was first class. The speed and efficiency of the operation was a result of a comprehensive programme of training, planning and exercising. However, there are always lessons to be learned and the presentation will deal with the challenges that remain, in addition to what went well". Andrews talk focuses on this, 'The July 2005 London Bombings - The Police Perspective'.

Also during MEPEC, Bill Tillbrook, Chief Superintendent, Head of Clubs and Vice Department, Metropolitan Police, London, will be discussing 'People Trafficking and Organised Vice Crime'. This will give an insight into human trafficking for sexual exploitation, including global trafficking routes, identity fraud and case studies covering a recent operation. Information will be given on the unique operating environment in London and the legislation available to Police to tackle the organised criminals.

"MEFEC", the Middle East Fire Exhibition & Conference is another core sector. Dealing with civil defense and fire issues, attracting exhibitors with products such as fire trucks, emergency vehicles, smoke detectors, alarms, extinguishers and rescue equipment.

Stewart Kidd, President, Institute of Fire and Safety Managers, UK, will be talking on 'Developments in the Fire Protection of High Rise Buildings and Shopping Malls'. Stewart believes, outside Europe, there is the problem of widely varying national standards, differing cultural approaches to fire safety and very different perceptions of the role of fire brigades. The impact of international chain hotels and the increase in long haul tourism have all had an impact on hotel management and on the expectations of the sort of standards, which can be reasonably expected of hotels catering to international travelers.

The attack on the World Trade Centre/Twin Towers demonstrated the particular vulnerability of high rise buildings during an emergency evacuation and considerable research work has been undertaken internationally to determine how best very tall structures can be designed and constructed to ensure the safety of occupants in a range of scenarios.

The third and arguably the fastest growing category at Intersec is the Health & Safety section. "MESH", the Middle East Safety & Health Exhibition & Conference, covers the whole area of safety in the workplace and PPE, currently a hot topic in the region with many employers voluntarily establishing better and safer codes of practice.

Speaking on "The Safe and Effective Evacuation of Buildings" is Simon Ancliffe, based in London but works internationally, has advised organisations and venues as diverse as the Dubai Metro, the MTR and KCRC metros in Hong Kong, the Beijing Olympic Stadium, the London Olympics bid, the Amsterdam Police and the Glastonbury Festival, as well as banks and retailers.

Intersec 2006 is going to be a remarkable event. Due to the Support of Dubai Police Force and Ministry of Interior Dubai Civil Defense, the show has attracted the most internationally well respected and established names in the field of Police, Fire and Safety. All the speakers and Exhibitors alike have chosen areas, products and services that are so fitting with the current economical growth within the UAE. Intersec 2006 is not to be missed.
