  • PRESS RELEASE

The recently established Ship Owners Association has recently held its first elections with Sharafuddin Sharaf, of Sharaf Shipping elected as President and Ahmed Abdullah Al Ghurair as Vice President of the association.

Based in Dubai Maritime City, the Ship Owners Association, aims at introducing a collective business forum representing companies registered and licensed in the UAE and working within this key growth sector.

"This is a pioneering move aimed at benefiting the maritime community in the Middle East. We are pleased to be able to significantly contribute to ensuring better standards in the maritime industry,"

said Amer Ali, Project Manager of Dubai Maritime City. "The principle objective of the association is to create a legally and professionally recognized platform to jointly promote and protect the UAE Ship Owners industry interests both regionally and internationally. It will also enhance and work towards the sustainable development of the UAE coastal waterfront and related marine commercial industry," he added.

In addition, the initiative will help promote the registration of ships under the UAE flag and will provide a forum for dialogue between the Maritime Authority of the UAE and ship-owners allowing the latter to have a greater role in the policies and practices of the Authority.

The association will aim to address and resolve the UAE and regional Ship Owners industry issues through the enhancement of a productive partnership between the public sector and private sector. It will actively promote interaction with other UAE related government related authorities, associations or bodies in the UAE and offer marketing support to members both regionally and internationally.

The UAE Ship Owners Association will also endeavor to introduce and administer sub-sector industry business groups or committees to competently represent the diverse maritime business activities and their different concerns.
