Participants were introduced to the latest developments in the Population Register and the new National ID Card, which is considered one of the biggest information technology projects to be introduced in the Middle East.

"It was important to hold such a seminar in order to acquaint our employees with a number of topics pertaining to the ID Card and how it will be introduced. We are confident that all EIDA employees will fully understand their duties and responsibilities before the program is implemented," said Badr Nasser al Ghaithi, Director of Administrative and Human Resources Department, EIDA.

"Those who are involved in the program should have detailed knowledge about this national project. During the seminar they were acquainted with the many goals the program will fulfill as well as the large number of positive advantages that it will bring. We also discussed the systems and technologies used in the card as well as the registration procedures for nationals and residents," he added.

EIDA is now about to launch a national campaign aimed at raising public awareness about the project. Accordingly, all EIDA employees will be prepared to answer general questions from the public on the project, the information to be included on the ID Card and the benefit of holding a single document that provides a reliable means of proving the cardholder's identity as well as securing that identity from fraud.

Al Ghaithi further explained that the Population Register and the ID Card programs are being introduced to a large number of national institutions and authorities. He said the introduction of a national program represents a necessity for the nation.

EIDA has been given responsibility for introducing a modern Population Register and ID Card system, which will further the country's efforts towards the provision of a safe environment for citizens and expatriate residents of the UAE. It is designed to keep personal identities secured from fraudulent or unauthorized use, support government planning services, enhance economic growth and place the UAE in the front ranks of the information technology age.
