Intersec opens successfully today

The region's biggest ever police, fire, security and safety trade fair was opened today by His Excellency Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Featuring over 450 exhibitors from 40 countries, the 8th edition of Intersec has recorded a 40% increase in size in just one year.

The International Police, Fire and Safety Conference, that features 30 of the world's most renowned experts, commenced today. At 11.30 today His Excellency Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim opened and addressed "MEPEC", (the Middle East Police Exhibition & Conference) followed by the keynote address from Tarique Ghaffur, Assistant Commissioner of London's Metropolitan Police.

His Excellency expressed what a pleasure it is to open an exhibition such as Intersec and securing partnerships across the globe. It is so important sharing knowledge based on experiences, especially when discussing international security, knowledge that is indispensable in a world that is developing so rapidly. The importance to educate each other on defying terrorism organised crime; keeping tighter border controls, fire safety and public security. At Intersec 2006 you will find the most advanced products and services and some of the world's high-ranking officers and specialists in the field.

Dr Mansour Alawar, Director General, Total Quality Department, Dubai Police talked about "Total Quality management in the Police Service - The Global Experience". Followed by Andrew Trotter, Deputy Chief Constable of the British Transport Police, who presented an in depth perspective on the experiences in dealing with July's London bombings. Mr Trotter talked honestly about such an incident and the learning curves that have come out of an attack of this sort. Bill Tillbrook, Chief Superintendent, Head of Clubs and Vice Department, Metropolitan Police, gives an insight into human trafficking for sexual exploitation, including global trafficking routes, identity fraud and case studies covering a recent operation. Information will be given on the unique operating environment in London and the legislation available to police to tackle the organised criminals. Other speakers at MEPEC include Thomas A Tass, who discussed "International Co-operation - Key to Good Border Policing", and Chuck Wexler "The 10 year experience with Crime Reduction Strategies in the United States".

Tomorrow, 30 January, "MEFEC", (the Middle East Fire Exhibition & Conference) takes place with specialist speakers from across the globe and on the final day, Tuesday 31 January, the third and arguably the fastest growing category at Intersec, will focus on Health & Safety. "MESH", (the Middle East Safety & Health Exhibition & Conference).

It is very apparent from today's opening that national pavilions have contributed enormously towards Intersec's growth. Presented at this years show are the largest groups ever seen in the Gulf, Including exhibitors from the UK, Germany, USA, Korea, France South Africa, Korea, China, Italy, France, Brazil and incredible presence from within the UAE of over 100 exhibitors. Examples of some of the participants are Siemens, AMG Systems, Borderpol Associations, Safe Trading Co. LLC, FoamPro and Ateco Trading.

Today was an exciting day at Intersec, and tomorrow which focuses on fire is set to follow in its footsteps.
