  • PRESS RELEASE

The region's biggest ever police, fire, security and safety trade fair, the 8th edition of Intersec, was opened yesterday by His Excellency Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

This year's show, which has increased by 40%, features over 450 exhibitors from 40 countries.

Day 2 of the International Police, Fire and Safety Conference, which focused on fire, took place today at 11.00, Colonel Rashid Thani Matrooshi opened and addressed today's conference. Key speakers included David Scott, Head of Specialist Operations Group for the London Fire Brigade, who talked about their response to the London bombings. Mr Scott explained that these bombings were a case of 'when' not 'if' and covered the background to the response, the preparation and the attendance of The London Fire Brigade.

Chief Robert Triozzi of the Venice Fire Brigade spoke about fire fighting for waterside developments; since no land based vehicles have access to the city of Venice or can manoeuvre within the city, all fire department activities are conducted on boats - a very apt subject considering all the new waterside projects in the region. Frank Cruthers, First Deputy Commissioner of the New York Fire Department talked upon another highly topical subject, fire fighting for skyscrapers. Assuming the Command of Operations at the World Trade Center following the collapse of the towers, Deputy Commissioner Cruthers served as Incident Commander for one month after the terrorist attack. Other speakers included Roger Smith, Former International Officer, Fire Service College, UK who discussed "CBRN Incidents - Developments in Preparation and Training" and Dieter Schmidt, Chief Fire Officer, Head of
BOSCH Fire School, Germany "Firefighting Fit? A Review of Fire Service Physical Fitness in European Brigades".

Among the many visitors at today's exhibition, was Richard Radford, Head of Dubai Airport Civil Defence. Mr Radford made the following comments on the show "Intersec 2006 is a great deal better than last year; the show is larger and has far more variety. Very interesting fire fighting equipment and protective clothing. It is obvious that exhibitors realise the potential in Dubai, especially with the new airport at Jebel Ali, fire safety is imperative".

The exhibitors' response to the opening day at Intersec was overwhelmingly positive. Paul Ramsay, Divisional Director of International Sales, Norbain SD Ltd said, "Fantastic day the quality and diversity of the visitors has reinforced our belief that Intersec is the premier show of the region". Jose Amigo, auta communications, s.l. was extremely pleased with the amount of visitors, especially for the first day of a trade fair. Sevgi Firat from YDS manufacturers of Footwear and outwear, found Intersec a great hub for building relationships within the UAE. Other contented exhibitors were BMW, Smiths, Panasonic, GST and Torna Tech

The second day at Intersec was a great success, the organisers Messe Frankfurt are confident that the show will finish on a high tomorrow.
