  • PRESS RELEASE

Reinaldo Garcia, GE Healthcare International's newly appointed President and CEO, recently visited the Middle East on his first official trip after starting his new role earlier this month.

Garcia attended the 30th annual Arab Health Congress and Exhibition in Dubai to announce new regional partnerships as well as launch the latest GE Healthcare breakthrough products and meet key regional customers.

He said: "In today's world, it is estimated that more than two billion people have inadequate access to health care. By introducing 'Healthcare Re-imagined', GE Healthcare's new concept around an 'early health' model of care, we aim to assist countries worldwide in bridging the gap to healthcare access as well as provide healthcare professionals with adapted and customized solutions to meet their needs.

"As the Middle East experiences a period of significant demographic change including massive population growth and increasing urbanization, there is a growing demand on its healthcare infrastructure. To meet such demand, GE Healthcare, is providing expertise in medical imaging and information technologies, medical diagnostics, patient monitoring systems, disease research, drug discovery and biopharmaceuticals dedicated to detecting disease earlier and tailoring treatment for individual patients.

"At GE Healthcare, our goal is to drive clinical efficacy and healthcare system efficiency, while leveraging our technology and bio-science innovation breakthroughs - ultimately benefiting patients. GE Healthcare is committed to the Middle East and supports this region's plans to take healthcare delivery to the next level. The regional market not only demands medical equipment, but also medical services and we see governments introducing more advanced technologies in providing medical services," said Garcia.

During his visit, Garcia discussed GE Healthcare's co-investment of US$ 7 million in the Varkey Group's project in Dubai Healthcare City. GE Healthcare also has a technology partnership of US$ 30 million for providing high-tech equipment and helped arrange the US$ 100 million financing for the Varkey Project.

Garcia also signed an agreement with Clemenceau Medical Center (CMC) in Beirut, Lebanon, (in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine International) to install the first GE Discovery™ ST system at the recently opened CMC. This agreement is in addition to a US$ 7 million contract CMC signed earlier with GE Healthcare to install the world's most advanced diagnostic imaging technology in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Fluoroscopy, Densitometry, Flat Panel Cardiac Catheterization Lab, and 4D Ultrasound, all linked to a Picture Archiving & Communication System (PACS) for a completely filmless medical imaging center.

GE Healthcare also launched its latest range of diagnostic imaging technologies and focused on specific modalities within diagnostic imaging including Computed tomography (CT) imaging, Magnetic Resonance (MR), imaging 4D Volume Ultrasound, Digital X-Ray, Mammography Picture Archiving, Communication Systems (PACS) and Performance Solutions, Molecular Imaging and PET/ CT (Positron Emission Tomography/ Computed Tomography).

"Furthermore, the Middle East is considered one of the largest regions using information technologies which will help further develop the medical technologies sector globally. This region has a genuine interest in supporting initiatives to positively impact the healthcare sector. With continued governmental support we see time and time again, we at GE Healthcare want to be part of this development network," added Garcia.
