DTCM accredited for Cambridge international diploma in travel and tourism

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) will be a certified international examination centre for the International Diploma in Travel and Tourism being offered by the prestigious University of Cambridge UK.

The diploma will be offered from March 2006 in two categories -Standard and Advanced - spanning eight to ten months. All are eligible to apply for the course but with a prerequisite of a high school diploma and a good command over English.

The DTCM Director General, Khalid A bin Sulayem, said: "That the University of Cambridge tied up with the DTCM to offer an international diploma in travel and tourism is itself an indication that Dubai is keen to promote its image as a leading trade and tourism destination of the world. It also reflects DTCM's commitment to social values and community services."

The Cambridge Travel and Tourism Diploma have been recognized for their quality by the Institute of Corporate Management in Hong Kong, Ministry of Labour and Social Security in China and Skills Development Fund in Singapore.

Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, DTCM Manager Human Resources, said: "This course is being offered for the first time in the UAE and will go a long way in upgrading skills of tourism professionals."

The Cambridge International Diploma in Travel and Tourism develops knowledge and practical skills for people working in or preparing to work in the rapidly changing and expanding global travel and tourism industry.

It will help develop students' knowledge of key elements of the tourism industry and create an opportunity for specialization through optional modules like marketing and promotion, ecotourism and business and executive travel.

The advanced level is for students who have completed the standard diploma in Travel and Tourism, people with an acquired knowledge of the industry, supervisors and junior managers with proven skills.

The course will include four modules the travel and tourism industry, travel organization, marketing and promotion and visitor services.

"The initiative is a very good one and it will help in boosting tourism and positioning Dubai as a leading leisure and travel destination of the world," Mr. Yaqoot said.
