The new metal analyser will enable the more than 400 members of the Group to instantly check the purity of gold and other metals.
The German-manufactured 'GoldCheck' is the latest in X-ray fluorescence instrumentation and can determine the precise percentage by weight (of karat) in a solid piece of jewellery in just minutes. The new analyser will enable retailers and wholesalers to check the purity of gold and other precious metals.
Speaking about the GoldCheck, Mr Tawhid Abdullah, Chairman of the Gold and Jewellery Group, said, 'This will be a great benefit to our members, as it would be extremely difficult for any of them to individually invest in such a sophisticated system. There is already a very high level of purity in Dubai, but this analyser will give security of mind to those dealing in gold. It will also help to increase consumer confidence in gold and other precious metals.'
He added that the Group is also planning to extend availability of the GoldCheck to consumers, who will be able to check the gold for free. This will reassure shoppers about the purity of the gold they are buying.
'This move fulfils two objectives of the Gold and Jewellery Group. We aim to promote the gold trade in Dubai, and we also want to provide valuable services to our members.'
Mr. Moaz Barakat, Regional Director, Middle East, World Gold Council, hailed the Group's initiative. 'The Gold and Jewellery Group has worked hard to help Dubai gain the title of City of Gold, and the city is famous regionally and internationally as a centre of gold trade. As such, it is extremely important that consumers and retailers have full confidence in the gold they buy. This gold analyser will be able to assure both groups of the purity of precious metals, and this is sure to have a very positive affect on gold sales in Dubai.'
There are also very positive reactions from the members of the group. 'It will be extremely useful and convenient for us to use the analyser to check jewellery,' said Mr. Ghaghada Hasmukhray Nathalal, Managing Director of Yaseen Jewellery. 'As retailers, we are responsible for guaranteeing customers that the gold they buy is made to the specified caratage. While this is true in the vast majority of cases, the presence of such a device will mean that we can be completely assured of the purity.'
Mr. Dilip Popley, Managing Director of Popley Kewalram Jewellers agreed. 'The decision of the Gold and Jewellery Group to install this device is one which will benefit all members. It will be a large factor in increasing consumer confidence, and is bound to have a positive effect on gold sales.'
