The BenQ PE7700 digital light processing (DLP) projector and the FP93GX 19-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor won Best Performance awards for their technological and design excellence. The PE7700 projector also won the T3 Gold Award.

The editors' test comments were; "If you fancy enjoying high-resolution, high-definition video content in the future, you'd be a fool to opt for any other then BenQ PE7700. If you are after a 19" LCD then, the BenQ FP93G X should be your pick. It offers top-notch display quality, a long warranty and all at a very aggressive price."

Currently BenQ is the third biggest producer of LCD monitors in the region and has the second highest share of the regional projector market, according to analysts Decision Tree Consulting.

"The awards underscore the breadth of the company's design and engineering capabilities, particularly in the video category," said Robert Dung, managing director, BenQ Middle East and Africa. "The Middle East is a relatively new market for us and we are extremely honoured with these plaudits. We believe BenQ's technological capabilities, manufacturing infrastructure and R&D investments will help us establish an impressive lead for our product groups in this region."

The demand for (LCD) monitors is growing exponentially in the Middle East and industry analysts' credit LCD monitors' improved performance and sharper brightness and contrast levels as the key reasons for their strong performance.

"The imaging market is peaking in terms of competitiveness. We are seeing a rise in demand for projection technology that integrates both portability and strong performance. Organisations are turning to compact projectors that offer them convenience and clarity. Projector sales are particularly strong in the government and education sectors," Dung added.

The PE7700 DLP projector offers impressive quality with 1100 lumens and a contrast ratio of 2500:1. This enables it to project clear images even in bright environments. The projector is also fitted with BenQ's new proprietary Sense-Eye technology that dramatically improves picture quality, while a zoom ratio of 1.37:1 doubles its range, offering placement flexibility.

The FP93GX, 19-inch LCD monitor is equipped with an Advanced Motion Accelerator (AMA) for superb picture quality and is ideal for multimedia use. It has a brightness of 300 cd/m2 (candelas per meter squared), a contrast ratio is 700:1 and response time of 2 ms.

Prices for LCD monitors have fallen substantially due to oversupply and, according to IDC Asia Pacific, further price drops are possible. IDC also predicts that demand for LCD monitors is likely to surpass traditional cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors by 2008. As the new generation of slim, stylish space-saving LCD monitors hit the market, and the average price stabilises, BenQ anticipates rapidly accelerating sales for LCD monitors.

"Multi use products are in vogue now and we will focus on designing functional, stylish and efficient products that suit a variety of applications and settings. This strategy was responsible for our phenomenal success in the Middle East last year and we will continue to build on our digital lifestyle range by launching an array of LCD monitors, projectors and LCD TVs this year. Our strategy for monitors is to have the widest range across a number of screen sizes of any brand in the market," said Dung.
