Siemens awarded two security contracts for the Doha 2006 Games

The two projects, worth EUR100 million (US$ 119 million), will cater for the development, supply and installation of command, control, communication and computer infrastructure (known as C4I) and the associated physical security systems (PSS) for the 15th Asian Games.

"The Government of Qatar is investing over US$2.8 billion to make the Asian Games Doha 2006 the sporting event of the 21st Century. A large portion of this budget is being invested in the security planning, infrastructure and latest technologies," said Mr. Abdulla Khalid Al Qahtani, Director General of DAGOC.

"Our investment in the security of the Games will ensure the measures for maximum level of security for all athletes, VIPs, officials, media, spectators and all participants in the Games whilst at the same time ensuring a pleasant and welcoming experience for all participants in the celebration of the Games,"

Mr. Al Qahtani continued.

Commenting on the two contracts awarded, Peter Fuchs, CEO, Siemens LLC said: "We are proud that Siemens LLC is awarded two security contracts for the second largest sporting event in the world. This is a very exciting project that will demand the highest level of service that is essential for the success and effective completion of this contract award."

The contract wins follow the successful deployment of similar installations worldwide by Siemens, including the Athens 2004 Olympics and the upcoming 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

The 15th Asian Games Doha 2006 is expecting the participation of 45 countries and regions in 39 competitive sports. Since the first Games in New Delhi (India) in 1951, the Asian Games has become the second largest sporting event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games, comprising half the world's population.
