AUD hosts the first Palestinian Fashion Show in Dubai

In its constant thrive for encouraging and developing student talent, the American University in Dubai recently hosted the First Palestinian Fashion Show.
The event was attended by His Excellency, Ambassador Saleem Abu Sultan, Consul General of the State of Palestine in Dubai, Ms. Aida Saad, the famous Palestinian Activist and a symbol of Palestinian resistance, Ms. Basima Odeh the designer of the fashion show dresses, along with a multicultural audience comprised of AUD students, staff and outsiders who were enthusiastic about the students' performances and the show's charitable purpose.
Commenting on the importance of the event, HE Ambassador Saleem Abu Sultan said: "The show was amazing and a perfect example of modern civilized communication between generations and communities, and for that I salute AUD's management, the media and all the people that participated to make this Palestinian night successful."
Ms. Dania Bazzy, External Affairs Director, AUD, concluded by saying: "At AUD, we always assist our students to develop their talents and help the community. We are committed to bring out the best in our students and to encourage them in all their charitable endeavors and humanitarian initiatives to help the local, regional and international communities."
The event which opened with a Palestinian dabke dance performed by AUD students was followed by the fashion show showcasing 30 Palestinian dresses ('thoub' in Arabic) from different villages around the occupied land. The dresses embroidered in many colors signifying the colors of the Palestinian land, were modeled to the sounds of Palestinian cultural music.
The fashion show ended with the show stopper, the Palestinian wedding dress showcased in a wedding setting enacted by the students. The event closed on a note recreating the freedom struggle of Palestine with another dabke dance performed by the famous "Dal'ona" professional dabke group.
The most beautiful dress selected that night - the dress from Jafa, a famous city in Palestine well-known for its unique embroidery designs was sold to one of the attendees at an impromptu auction, with the proceeds being donated to the Cultural Foundation in Palestine.

The American University in Dubai is a private, non-sectarian institution of higher learning founded in 1995. Fall 2005, enrolment is 2,356 students representing eighty nationalities.AUD offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
