The project, which involved deploying servers, leading edge software and visualization solutions from Silicon Graphics (SGI) and SEOS Ltd., will enable ZADCO to analyze and visualize oil and gas reservoirs faster and more accurately than before.

The new ZADCO Visualization Center (ZVC), a state-of-the-art facility composed of the latest in hardware and software in the visualization industry, is driven by a 16-processor SGI Onyx 3900 visualization system with InfiniteReality4 graphic engine. A key function of this multi-purpose facility is not only to interpret huge data-sets gathered from oilfields but also to integrate it with other teams and to share knowledge and experience which will lead to an improved quality of information for 'on field development options' for the management.

The provision of the ZVC will enable geophysicists, geologists, reservoir engineers, operations staff and drilling engineers to work efficiently in a collaborative environment, engaging discussion between different disciplines with the ultimate benefits of adding knowledge and extending the understanding reservoir to additional technical level.

Speaking on the implementation, Mr. Rami Al-Naghi, Project Manager for Emirates Computers said, "The ZVC Project was a complex one and needed careful design and implementation jointly with ZADCO. Having implemented the first visualization facility in the UAE for ADCO in 1999, Emirates Computers had the knowledge and the expertise to successfully complete the ZVC in the most professional manner and in less than seven months. Our solution included a 16-processor SGI Onyx 3900 visualization system with InfiniteReality4 graphic engine, three Christie 3-Chip 8000 Lumens DLP rear projection system on a 2.7m curved screen, Dell workstations, Landmark's GeoProbe visualization software and other cutting edge solutions to build this state-of-the-art facility, which will help ZADCO speed up processes, increase efficiency and save on operational costs."

"By utilizing the facilities of the Visualization Centre, we foresee significant improvements in technical and planning activities and the execution of the core business. The ZVC will help in optimization of the long-term field-development plan and have a direct impact on capital savings on operational costs and improved production and recovery,"

Mr. Hamad Bu Al Rougha of Zadco observed.
"The Visualization Centre will give Zadco geoscientists and engineers an opportunity to work together to determine extraction strategies and map development paths for reservoirs that ZADCO manages, reducing the reservoir simulation time and in turn saving on operational costs for the company," Mr. Al Rougha concludes.
