Admissions have begun and classes are scheduled to commence with the Fall 2006 semester.

Established in 1785 and with campuses in both Saint John and Fredericton in the Province of New Brunswick, UNB is one of Canada's oldest and most respected institutions. As a comprehensive public university, UNB offers prestigious degree programmes in information technology, business, engineering, education and a number of other disciplines. The University of New Brunswick is recognized as a leader in internationalization, with students from more than 70 countries. This is part of a total enrollment in Canada that exceeds 11,000.

The Dubai campus will initially focus on information technology and business-related studies. Full degree completion is offered at the Dubai Knowledge Village though students can also choose to study for one or two years in Dubai after which they can transfer to Canada for various degree completion options.

Dubai Knowledge Village authorities welcomed the addition of UNB to its international educational community. Dubai Knowledge Village CEO Dr. Abdulla Al Karam said,

"We are keen to partner with leading international universities like the University of New Brunswick to further develop Dubai Knowledge Village into an international education destination. Over the past two years, KV has attracted several prestigious universities from around the world. Canada's reputation for quality education significantly enhances the attraction of the programmes offered by UNB's Dubai campus,"

he added.

For UNB, the campus in Dubai Knowledge Village represents a logical progression of its extensive activities in the region. The university established a recruitment office in Dubai in May 2000. Since then, the number of its students from the UAE and elsewhere in the region has grown continuously.

Dr. Kathryn Hamer, UNB Vice President (Saint John) said the new programme is in many ways a response to demand from the region's student community - particularly those who wanted a Canadian education but were unable to attend courses at the Canadian campuses. "This program partnership supports our vision of UNB as a global university and we are proud to welcome new students from Dubai," said the Vice President.

Admissions and academic requirements are identical to those at UNB's Canadian campuses. All Dubai Knowledge Village, students will be carried as fully matriculated students and will be fully integrated into UNB's student online information system.
