MZ & Partners appointed as lead master planners and architects for multi-billion dollar Energy City Qatar

Gulf Energy, the global consortium of energy consultants and investors behind the multi-billion dollar Energy City Qatar development, today announced the appointment of MZ & Partners as the project's lead master planners and architects.

Energy City Qatar will be developed within the recently unveiled US$5 billion Lusail development North of Doha, which will be spread over 35 square kilometres comprising marinas, residential areas, commercial districts, leisure facilities including two golf courses and an entertainment district.

Based in Doha, Qatar, MZ & Partners is one of the leading architectural and engineering consultancy firms in the region, and was selected for the Energy City Qatar project after a global audit of leading architectural firms.

Commenting on the appointment of MZ & Partners, Mr. Esam Janahi, Chairman of Gulf Energy and Energy City Qatar, said: "Our aim is to develop Energy City Qatar as a landmark project that will make an architectural statement of its own, and we are confident that MZ & Partners are the right associates to execute a world class diverse master plan of this magnitude. The remit of MZ & Partners is to reflect the overall theme of energy in all aspects of the project development, making it distinctive with an identity of its own."

Energy City Qatar is designed as the Middle East's first integrated energy business centre for the global oil and gas industry. The region holds most of the world's carbon based energy resources.

"Energy City Qatar will be developed through strong regional and global partnerships. It will enhance the flow of inward investments into Qatar and the region in general, adding value to the economic diversification process underway, The appointment of the master planners and architects is one of the salient steps in taking the project ahead," Mr. Janahi said.

"MZ & Partners were selected after an extensive global scrutiny of leading architectural consultancy firms, and we are fully convinced of the company's expertise and commitment to complete the project on schedule," he said.

"The appointment of a Doha-based company as the lead consultant and architect is also in line with our strategy to encourage local companies to take part and benefit from the development of Energy City Qatar," Mr. Janahi added.
The first phase of the Energy City Qatar was unveiled recently, involving an investment of US$1.6 billion.

Commenting on being appointed as the lead consultant and architect, Mr. Marwan Zgheib, General Manager, MZ & Partners said: "We are extremely thrilled with this opportunity to participate in such a unique project that has significant ramifications for the State of Qatar as well as the whole of the Middle East. We will utilise best-of-breed expertise and knowledge for the execution of Energy City Qatar, which will feature a design envelope of the theme of energy in all its components.

"From an architectural point of view, our aim will be to create a distinctive identity for the development. We will use energy-linked components of nature to develop this project and will also ensure that energy consumption during the development will be minimal, in order to make Energy City Qatar a truly green development," he added.

The appointment of MZ & Partners closely follows the appointment of Gulf Finance House as lead financial advisor and PFC Energy as lead strategic advisor to project.

Energy City Qatar is a first-of-its-kind master planned development designed to attract investments from significant global players in the hydrocarbon value chain to the region. It will be an integrated energy business centre, consolidating services, markets and finance under one roof.
