This latest victory reaffirms the Mercedes-Benz model strategy to sell the G-Class alongside the revolutionary all-new M-Class and the new GL Class which arrives in the Middle East later this year.
The G-Class has retained its striking body shape and stable foundations in unchanged form since 1979. At the same time constant evolution has kept the 'G' at the technical forefront. There is also no end in sight for this success story as a new special 'Grand Edition' model available through official Middle East Mercedes-Benz distributors across is set to demonstrate.
This latest award makes the G-Class one of the most highly rated models in the off-road sector. The readers of Germany's leading magazine "auto, motor und sport" have voted the vehicle the world's best off-roader no less than 13 times.
Following its victory in the 1983 Paris-Dakar Rally, Australian motoring magazine 'bushdriver' proclaimed the G-Class as the best 4x4 off-roader of the year. In 1995 readers of the boating magazine 'Boote' voted the G-Class the best towing vehicle and in 2003 this successful model was nominated as the 'Classic of the future' by 'Motor Klassik' magazine.
"Our G-Class impressively combines classic off-road vehicle values with the very latest automobile technology,"
said Johannes Fritz, Director, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes Car Group, Middle East. "The new Grand Edition celebrates the outstanding career of this modern-day classic."
The optional special paint finish 'allanite grey magno', in contrast to conventional metallic paintwork, has a clear topcoat that protects the surface and lends an exclusive appearance to the 'Grand Edition' model.
The interior atmosphere is no less exclusive. The upholstery is of open-pored, non-embossed natural leather and other interior features include matte-silk wood trim on the dashboard and centre console, as well as illuminated door sills with 'Grand Edition' lettering.
