The EEG will use the truck to collect recyclable waste from across the UAE.

Presenting the truck to the EEG during his visit to the United Arab Emirates, Nick McInnes, Middle East and Africa Director for UK Trade and Investment said:

'The purchase of this truck not only demonstrates our strong commitment to the UAE's push for a greener future but also, it shows how we can all work together to raise awareness and highlight the importance of recycling'.

British Ambassador, Richard Makepeace, added: 'The partnership between HSBC and UK Trade and Investment is an excellent example of the public and private sectors working in tandem to help promote a brighter future for the next generations. The British Government is strongly committed to the Environment and an ardent supporter of a sustainable, greener future.'

Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of the EEG, highlighted that the truck is an essential tool in their recycling campaign. The EEG will use it primarily to collect waste from schools, universities and member organisations across the Emirates. The EEG chief said,

'Our objective is to collect as much waste for recycling as we can, from as many people and organisations all over the UAE as possible. Only by doing so can we make a realistic attempt to contribute to the government's efforts in tackling the critical problem of waste in our country. The truck donated by the British Embassy will take us a step forward in that direction.' She also praised the British Embassy for its commitment to social and environmental responsibilities.
