It was James McNeil Whistler, who first established The Savoy's links with the art world when he painted the scaffolding of the hotel as it was being built. Claude Monet followed him as a guest of the hotel as did Oscar Kokoschka and Andy Warhol.
As a result of such connections the hotel has recently launched The Savoy Art Collection and The Savoy artist-in-residence scheme, with Peter Brown as the first incumbent. The first Savoy Art Collection comprises of a collection of Peter Browns limited edition prints executed around The Savoy and the Thames and two Monet prints.
