- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, August 14 - 2002 at 15:42
- PRESS RELEASE
As many as 50 UAE national youth successfully completed the Career Development Summer Programme (CDSP) organized by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in conjunction with the Ministry of Education & Youth, TANMIA - The National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority and The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
He noted that the DTCM was committed to the employment and professional development of UAE nationals in the tourism industry and the CDSP has advanced this mission.
Commenting on the project work of the students, Mr. bin Hareb remarked, "The young UAE boys have actually outdone the girls who undertook this course earlier in the summer and have shown a great
deal of enthusiasm and innovation by designing their own websites and filming footage of the course and creating their own video," he remarked.
The CDSP has ensured that a culturally sensitive, supportive and rewarding environment was created to make the students feel comfortable and adequate training was provided.
"Education shapes our country's future, and our young UAE nationals are building this future by preparing for it today. TANMIA and its partners have worked together to assist our young generation in building their knowledge regarding the work opportunities and the integral role that the hospitality, travel, and tourism industry provides to the UAE's Economic Infrastructure," said Abdulla M. Al Marzouqi - Acting Director General of TANMIA.
The CDSP has provided an avenue for our young men and women to explore, develop, and the opportunity to take advantage of this knowledge in making informed career decisions whether they be for the present or upon completion of higher education," Mr. Al Marzouqi added.
"The most important outcome of this course has been the awakening and realization, among the young UAE national men and women course participants, of the enormous impact of the hospitality and tourism industry on the development of United Arab Emirates and Dubai," said Ron Hilvert, Principal of the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
Mr. Hilvert added, "The students can now for the first time clearly see the enormous variety and scope of rewarding careers as well as training opportunities available to them in the industry. Also, the hands on learning approach used on this training course has demonstrated to the students that learning experiences can be both fun and educational."
"The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, the UAE's leading higher educational institution covering both hospitality management and travel and tourism management, has welcomed the opportunity of working with the DTCM's Emiratization Task Force for Tourism on this first annual UAE national summer development programme," he said.
The CDSP course included on-line learning, English, IT and a multitude of site visits that enabled the students to fully understand the many aspects of the tourism and hospitality industry.
