UAE Minister opens Third International Arabic Calligraphy exhibition

The third edition of the Dubai International Exhibition of the Art of Arabic Calligraphy was inaugurated at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel on February 25 (Saturday).

The exhibition will remain open till March 1.

The UAE Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Mr. Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, formally opened the exhibition in the presence of the UAE Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Director General of Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem, Mr. Juma Al Majid, Chairman of the Juma Al Majid Cultural Centre and Mr. Mohammed Al Murr, Chairman of the Dubai Cultural Council.

Calligraphers from 18 countries are in Dubai to attend the Third International Arabic Calligraphy exhibition being organized by the DTCM.

The DTCM, as part of its mission to preserve and promote Dubai's art, culture and heritage is organizing the dedicated Arabic calligraphy exhibition. On show are more than 120 works by 38 calligraphers.

Mr. Marwan bin Beyat, DTCM Manager Events and General Supervisor of the exhibition, said: "Such exhibitions not only uphold Dubai's heritage and culture but also promote the art form of Arabic calligraphy."

Like the past two years, this year's show has been organized by the DTCM in association with the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture of Istanbul (IRCICA).

Participants of the five-day exhibition have been drawn from different countries, including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Iran, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Bosnia Bangladesh, Libya, Algeria, Japan, Oman, Lebanon and the UAE.

Eight countries are participating for the first time, including Morocco, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Libya, Algeria, Japan, Oman and Bosnia.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors daily between 5 pm-10 p.m.
