Humaid Rashid Sahoo, E-Vision's Chief Executive Officer, said: "E-Vision remains committed to delivering the very best in entertainment quality and standards to its customers. Capitalizing on Thomson's experience in set-top-box and PVR technology demonstrated by their long term global leadership of the market, E-Vision is planning to take the whole industry into a new whole era."
"Moving forward and building on the success of our partnership with Thomson to date, E-Vision is delighted to demonstrate the PVR solution that will provide customers with a wider choice, greater flexibility, and ultimate control than ever before,"
he added.
E-Vision is the largest digital network operator in the region transmitting on a fully hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) network ensuring crystal clear video resolution and CD quality audio output. In short time, E-Vision will expand to cover the length and breadth of the United Arab Emirates.
Frédéric Kurkjian, Vice President Satellite EMEA & Worldwide Cable - Thomson, said: "We are extremely delighted to continue our collaboration on set-top-box technology with a particularly dynamic operator such as E-Vision, which is highly focused on offering the best possible services to its customers."
"In demonstrating the benefits of PVR technology at this show, we are gearing up to exploit the full potential of this market in the Middle East and deliver consumers with an unparalleled viewing experience," he added.
PVR is an advanced set-top-box technology that allows users to record and save hours of TV programming on a set-top-box hard drive to view at their pleasure. Users can pause and re-wind live TV, record more than one channel at a time and find and record whole series, putting them fully in control of their viewing preferences.
According to industry analysts IMS Research, worldwide shipments of digital cable and DTH set-top boxes are set to increase by 15% over the next 5 years, approaching 74.8 million units by the end of 2010. IMS also estimates that by the end of 2005, over 2.6 million households in Europe were using a DVR. By 2010, it believes this market is forecast to reach over 41 million households. Operators are all too aware of the need to offer increased functionality and interactive services in particular set-top boxes that feature DVR, if they are to be able to exploit the potential of this growing market.
