The history of International Women's Day can be traced back to March 8, 1908, when the New York City Social Democratic Women's Society sponsored a mass meeting on women's rights. Since then, it has become a special day for promoting women's rights and for celebrating the economic, social, cultural, and political achievements for women.
Women Expo, on the other hand, was started only last year, becoming the first-ever exclusive exhibition for women not only in Oman but in the whole GCC. Paul pointed out that, by catering to the interests and aspirations of women, the 2005 event successfully attracted the participation of women of all ages and nationalities.
Paul revealed that Women Expo 2006 will continue to showcase everything that sets women apart and enable them to lead productive lives. He explained that, in addition to beauty products and the latest fashion, the exhibition will feature educational opportunities available for women and raise awareness on serious health problems that commonly affect women. It will also focus on home improvement, wedding concepts, and proper child care.
"Our ultimate objective is for Women Expo to contribute to women empowerment in the sultanate," he stressed.
"Women have an important role to play in the country's continued economic and social development, and a growing number of women in Oman are proving that they are up to the challenge."
