Cambridge congratulates high achieving students at Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Awards 2005

High achieving UAE students who have excelled at the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) exams this year will be felicitated at the fourth Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Awards 2005.

In its fourth year, the award ceremony will take place on 14 March at Dubai Knowledge Village.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone, has been invited to present the awards to UAE students who have worked hard to gain Cambridge qualifications in 2005. William Bickerdike, CIE Regional Manager for Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan and Di Palmer, CIE's Director of Assessment, will also attend to congratulate students.

"CIE congratulates these students for gaining exceptional results in their examinations," said Mr Bickerdike. "These achievements are the start of a bright future for the talented students of United Arab Emirates. I hope they are proud of their success."

All awards presented at the ceremony are named after Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who has kindly been the patron for the awards for the last four years.

Cambridge Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement - A total of 18 awards will be given to the top performing male and female students at Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A Level in each of three geographical regions; Dubai, Abu Dhabi and from those students at schools in the remaining Emirates, from the June 2005 examination session. Prizes: Trophy, certificate and a book from Cambridge University Press.

Cambridge Best in the World Awards - This award will be presented to students who have achieved the highest mark in the world at Cambridge IGCSE, A and AS Level in any subject. Prizes: Trophy, certificate and a book from Cambridge University Press.

Cambridge Special Achievement Award - CIE will present an award to two students who have achieved academically whilst overcoming significant personal challenges. Prizes: Trophy, certificate and a book from Cambridge University Press.

Cambridge Award - This award is nominated by schools for the student who has made the most significant contribution to the life of their school and local community. CIE will judge the three best nominations, who will each receive the award. Prizes: Trophy, certificate and a book from Cambridge University Press
Cambridge Inspirational Teacher Award - This award recognises the hard working teachers of the Cambridge programme who have inspired students in their school. Prizes: Trophy, certificate and a cheque for £250 for their school.

Cambridge ICT Innovation Award - This award will be presented to the school that has demonstrated the most innovative use of ICT in their teaching. Prizes: Trophy and a certificate.
Cambridge ICT Centre Award - In recognition of the number of students taking Cambridge International Diplomas in IT subjects, CIE will recognise the Centres with high numbers of successful students taking the Cambridge International Diplomas in IT Skills. Prizes: Trophy and a certificate.
