7th Annual MultaQa Qatar conference opens in Doha

7th annual MultaQa Qatar conference, organised by the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority and Global Reinsurance will open at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Doha.

Since its inception in 2007, the conference has established itself as the leading regional insurance, reinsurance and risk management event, with a focus on thought leadership.

Over the following two days, over 500 senior delegates from more than 30 countries will discuss the key trends and drivers for the MENA region's buoyant (re)insurance markets as well as relevant global developments.

His Excellency Yousef Hussain Kamal, Minister of Finance and Economy of the State of Qatar, will deliver the keynote opening address.

Abdulrahman Al-Shaibi, Managing Director and Board Member of the QFC Authority, said, "The QFC Authority is delighted to host the annual MultaQa Qatar for the seventh time. We are proud that since its launch in 2007 this meeting has become the leading platform for the risk and insurance industry to network and discuss the main themes affecting the industry in the MENA region."

Shashank Srivastava, CEO and Board Member of the QFC Authority, added, "The insurance sector plays a pivotal role in promoting the economic and social development of the MENA region. MultaQa Qatar offers a unique opportunity for regional and international executives and experts to share their knowledge and experience, contributing to the industry's further professionalization."

On day one of the conference Abdulrahman Al-Shaibi, Managing Director and Board Member of the QFC Authority, will highlight the crucial role of the insurance sector in developing a vibrant financial services sector in Qatar.

His presentation will be followed by the first industry keynote address, delivered by Chris O'Kane, CEO of Aspen Group, who will elaborate on contemporary challenges facing the global property and casualty industry.

This perspective will be complemented by Ashok Kumar Roy, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, General Insurance Corporation of India, who will discuss the role of the (re)insurance industry in emerging markets. The day concludes with a CEO panel of regional insurers and reinsurers discussing strategic issues facing the MENA (re)insurance markets. Arab Insurance Group, Dubai Holding, Guy Carpenter, Hannover Re, Munich Re, Oman Insurance and SCOR will be represented on the panel.

Day two will kick off with a speech from Eng. Essa Mohammed Ali Kaldari, CEO, Lusail Real Estate Development Company, who will give an overview of Lusail City, an illustration of the dramatic growth of insurable assets in Qatar. Next, Christoph Schwager, Chief Risk Officer of EADS (Airbus) will explore the topic of Enterprise Risk Management, followed by Andrew Bradley, Head of Group Risk Services, Nestlé who will address the latest developments surrounding captives.

Also on day two, Akshay Randeva, Director, Strategic Development, QFC Authority and Dr. Kai-Uwe Schanz, Chairman of MultaQa Qatar and Partner with Dr. Schanz, Alms & Company will report on findings of the 1st MENA Insurance Barometer, a survey conducted on behalf of the Qatar Financial Centre Authority with 35 senior executives representing insurers, reinsurers and brokers operating in the region.

The conference concludes with a panel debate of CEOs and senior executives from the global reinsurance industry, representing Catlin Re, Gulf Re, Swiss Re and Willis Re. In addition conference delegates will have the opportunity to visit the Qatar 2022 Legacy Pavillion and learn more about the FIFA World Cup tournament.
