- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, March 11 - 2006 at 16:36
- PRESS RELEASE
Under the directive of H.H Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will implement three key road infrastructural projects to facilitate traffic flow in the Emirate.
The second biggest project is aimed at improving the road network in the Sofouh area between the Burj Al Arab Interchange no. 4 and Interchange no. 5.5. The project will include improvement of the area's road network to accommodate increasing traffic caused by the multiple investment projects in the area.
A direct road running parallel to the Sheikh Zayed and Al Sofouh roads will be developed as part of the project, as well as a road that connects Barsha with Al Sofouh area. A tunnel to Knowledge Village will also be developed to ease traffic flow. The estimated completion time for the Al Sofouh project is 18 months.
The third project will centre on the improvement of Al Rasheed Road interchanges. The project includes transforming the roundabouts on Al Rasheed Road into traffic-light regulated intersections in order to increase traffic handling capacity. An intersection will link the Rasheed Road with the Omar bin Khattab Road, while another will link Al Rasheed road with the Abu Bakr Al Siddique Road. Al Rasheed Road will be linked with Wuheida Road via a third intersection and with Cario Road via a fourth. The overall estimated time for project completion is 10 months.
H.E Mattar Al Tayer, the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority said: "Dubai is a rapidly expanding metropolis making huge strides across sectors such as telecommunications, tourism and information technology. The emirate's corporate activities and leisure attractions also bring in thousands of investors and visitors to Dubai. Through our continuous efforts, we will work towards providing the best infrastructure and communication facilities to back the tremendous development taking place and ensure that various projects are implemented to ease the movement of transport and beautify Dubai."
"Our committed efforts will provide effective solutions that will lead to an extensive and well developed roads and transport network that will support the city's growing population. Our dedication will help Dubai achieve its vision and ambitions to become the most vibrant city in the world," he concluded.
