BankMuscat receives BS7799 certification

BankMuscat, the nation's premier bank, has become the first organization in the Sultanate, and the fourth bank from across the region, to have successfully complied with the requirements for establishing an Information Security Management System (ISMS) and has received the prestigious BS7799 certification for the IT Security function of the bank.

Speaking on the occasion, AbdulRazak Ali Issa, Chief Executive, BankMuscat (SAOG) said:

"This is a significant milestone in the BankMuscat's desire to implement industry's best practices for information security. At BankMuscat, we are firmly of the belief that a comprehensive information security management system is essential in the present day technology era where confidentiality, integrity, availability and security of information assets are crucial for fostering customer confidence. We believe this is a significant first step towards an organizational-wide ISMS implementation."


The BS7799 certification is a global standard for best practices in information security. The BS7799 certification is awarded to those organizations that have gone through an accreditation certification process, in line with the BS7799 Part 2:2002 standard. The ISMS is a robust management framework, which takes into account a well-balanced study of people, processes and the technological aspects of Information Security.

Also speaking on the occasion, Yaseen Abdul Latif, AGM (Finance & Strategy) and Chairman of the Security Steering Committee of BankMuscat said:

"The BS 7799 Certification has resulted in the bank reviewing some of its key processes and re-engineering them for better security and reliability. BS7799 certification is part of the continuous improvement exercise adopted by the bank to improve the reliability and quality of its customer services. I am sure this will not only motivate other business functions within the bank to implement standard information security practices and to strive for certification, but also drive other organizations from across the Sultanate to strive toward achieving such levels of excellence in the information technology arena."

BankMuscat, has time and again voiced its belief for the need for a strong IT and technology backbone and is known to be one of the most significant investors in technology-enabled banking products and services across the region. The bank has also gone on record to state that it believes that 'IT will help bank create vital brand differentiation and develop customer loyalty in the years ahead'.
