The Central Park will take up about 8.5 hectares of the 134.6-hectare Shams project. The park will feature choreographed fountains equipped with the latest live water displays. The running water will also be beneficial to the surrounding environment through its use in sustainable energy techniques. The Shams canal network will run through different parts of the Central Park, which will facilitate transportation by water taxis. This is part of the diverse transportation solutions that will be characteristic of the Shams development.
Stylish restaurants and coffee shops, retail outlets, recreational, cultural and sports facilities will be available within the park. More than 4500 parking spots are also planned for offsite visitors to the park.
"Since its inception, Sorouh has planned distinct developments that respond to the needs of modern lifestyles. These projects will be built to the highest global standards and in keeping with our philosophy of creating the perfect balance in Shams Abu Dhabi,"
said Saeed Al Ghafli, Chairman of Sorouh.
"The park exemplifies Sorouh's commitment to finding the perfect balance by creating an ideal ecological atmosphere for Shams Abu Dhabi residents; containing recreational facilities in a park-like environment and surrounded by great architecture," he added.
Shams Abu Dhabi is being developed on 1.320 million sq.m of Al Reem Island, off the northern coastline of downtown Abu Dhabi. Predominately urban residential in character, the Shams Abu Dhabi project will encompass residential and commercial buildings, hotels, and leisure and recreation services.
The first phase of the project is expected to be accomplished by 2009, and the project is scheduled for completion end of 2011.
