- PRESS RELEASE
Al Ghazal Golf Club, owned by Abu Dhabi Duty Free, and DHL UAE, the country's leading express logistics provider, today announced the 33rd Abu Dhabi Men's Open Championship.
DHL UAE's support as the Principle Sponsor of the event, was revealed today in a joint press conference held at the home venue of the golf club, with speeches from Scott Dunn, DHL Abu Dhabi General Manager and Dayle Kelly, Al Ghazal Club Manager.
Speaking at the conference, Dunn, said: "We are thrilled to associate the DHL brand with the Abu Dhabi Men's Open Championship. We have a strong tradition of supporting golfing events and our agreement with Al Ghazal Club represents a continuation of this strategy."
This year's competition promises to be fierce as Vikram Judge, leader in the Order of Merit on 97.5 points, Matthew Turner, second on 95.8 and Dino Varkey, third on 95.5 points, have already booked their slots. As the race for the UGA Order of Merit speeds up, a full field of the UAE's finest are expected to participate.
Widely regarded as the best sand golf course in the world, Al Ghazal Golf Club is organising the event after many changes have been made to the course since last year's Open.
"We are proud to have such a prestigious sponsor for the championship, and we are looking forward to welcoming some of the finest local golfers to this great event for spectators and golf enthusiasts throughout the country to enjoy," said Dayle Kelly, Al Ghazal Club Manager.
The event, which will be the 6th in the UAE Golf Association's Order of Merit for the 2005/2006 season, is unique in the fact that it is open to both amateurs and professional golfers.
