Specialist pediatric surgeon joins region's leading sub-speciality musculoskeletal center
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, March 14 - 2006 at 13:09
- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai Bone and Joint Center (DBAJ), the region's premier sub-specialty musculoskeletal center for treatment and research, is delighted to announce the appointment of its newest member, Dr. Marc Sinclair MD, a leading pediatric orthopaedic surgeon who is specialised in treating children with musculoskeletal deficiencies.
Before joining DBAJ in February 2006, Dr. Sinclair was the Deputy Chief of the orthopaedic department and head of the division for limb deformity at Altona Children's Hospital in Hamburg, Germany, (the largest pediatric orthopaedic specialty group of its kind in Germany), where many of his patients came from the Gulf and Middle East region.
"Children's bodies grow and develop in relatively short periods of time. For most children, the process is effortless and measured simply in how fast they outgrow their clothes or toys," explained Dr. Sinclair. "Sometimes, however, an acute injury such as a fracture or congenital problem can interrupt the normal developmental process. It is crucial that those injuries or diseases be treated with special consideration as a child's musculoskeletal system is different from an adult's, and requires a specialized type of care," he explained.
Commenting on the center's commitment to offering the highest quality treatments, Suzanne Al Houby, CEO of Dubai Bone and Joint Center, added, "Pediatric orthopaedics today constitutes a subspecialty in orthopaedic surgery. Historically, it is where orthopaedics in general all began. Our goal is to employ world class specialists who combine compassionate care with the latest technological advancements to help each child reach maximum function as quickly and safely as possible."
Dr. Sinclair has a strong interest in the correction of pediatric foot deformities. He regularly presents papers at international meetings concerning the Ponseti treatment for clubfoot deformity, and has organized several meetings and workshops throughout Europe and Asia.
In addition, Dr. Sinclair has demonstrated expertise in pediatric spinal deformities, such as congenital and idiopathic scoliosis, hip pathologies in the child, and pediatric trauma. Dr. Sinclair is also a member of the European Pediatric Orthopaedic Society (EPOS) limb lengthening and reconstruction society of Germany (ASAMI - Germany.
