Sheikh Hamdan honours Dubai Human Development Award 2005 winners

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry presented the Dubai Human Development Award (DHDA 2005) to ABN AMRO BANK from the Finance Sector at a ceremony held recently at the Jumeirah Beach hotel in Dubai.

This year there was only one winner of the award.

In addition, two organisations from the tourism sector were awarded Certificates of Appreciation for the significant contribution to national human development within their organisations. The winning companies included - 'Jumeirah' and Jebel Ali International Hotel.

'The involvement of UAE nationals within the private sector is a significant factor and is essential to the economic growth in Dubai,' said Khalid Al Kassim, Deputy Director General for Planning and Development, DED. "The wisdom of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the late Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum highlighted the sons and daughters of the UAE as the true asset of the country."

"The DHDA recognises the efforts of organisations that work closely with nationals to develop their abilities and emphasize their role in the future of this country through intensive training, mentoring and guidance. The criteria of the award evaluates the policies and procedures instituted by companies to increase the efficiency of their national human resources, offer motivation and incentives to be an essential part of the company's human capital and consequently increase their productivity," he added.

"Today under the patronage and support of H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we are acknowledging the efforts and achievements of Dubai's private sector in the development of UAE nationals. I call upon the private sector in Dubai to go through the process of training and encouraging UAE nationals to have a more influential role in the economic growth of their country," said Mr. Al Kassim.

Applications are assessed by a team of assessors, all of whom are experts in human resources from public and private sectors. Each applicant receives a detailed feedback report, which evaluates the company's strengths and areas of improvement.
